Selection Of First Batch N-Power Volunteers
The Selection of the first batch of Npower volunteers was done in a fair and transparent manner. That is 40% of all the applications received from each state were selected.
A total of 200,000 volunteers were selected in the first batch released by the Npower program in 2016.
Applicants were made to write an online test which was based on basic knowledge of English, general knowledge, quantitative reasoning, as well as other agriculture-specific questions.
TheFederal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) also apportioned about 7,000 of those selected across each states to promote self sufficiency targets in the agriculture value chain.
Other Criteria For Selection
Other criteria were considered based on age (not above 35years), gender and disability.
The percentage of selection was higher in some states. 40% of all applications were selected across all the states for the N-Power Teach, Community and Heath programmes.
While 50% applications in the Npower Agro programme were selected in all 36 states and FCT. Also, north-eastern states and states that had low numbers were given special consideration.
Facts About N-Power Programme
The Npower program was initiated by the Federal Government of Nigeria to drastically reduce youth unemployment.
The focus is to provide young graduates with the skills, tools and livelihood to enable them advance from unemployment to employment, entrepreneurship and innovation.
The first phase of N-Power will target Nigeria’s critical needs in education, agriculture, technology, creative, construction and artisanal industries.
N-Power is also preparing Nigeria for a global outsourcing push where our young Nigerians can export their services to work on global projects that earn Nigeria foreign exchange.
The N-Power Volunteer Corps will engage and train 500,000 young unemployed graduates. 200,000 Volunteers have already been selected in the first batch.
About 150, 000 of the 200,000 beneficiaries selected have been successfully verified and are receiving a monthly stipend of N30,000. The Programme is expected to last for the duration of 2 years.
The 500,000 volunteers under the N-Power scheme will be given computing devices that will contain applications and information necessary for their specific engagement, as well as information for their continuous training and development.
Any information that does not emanate from this identified sources or directly from the Presidency should be simply and outrightly dismissed.
Date for commencement of the next batch of volunteers for the N-Power program will be announced on the N-power official portal.
